Paula & Steve’s wedding was a surprise – to Paula & to me.  Steve called me at 9 a.m. yesterday, asking if I was available to officiate their marriage THAT DAY, as their original plans were on hold due to the weather.  They had their rings and license and since I was happily available, it was a plan to marry them at Paula’s booth at The Quilt Show at the Agricultural Center.

The plan:  At noon,  I met Steve at the main entry and gathered information to personalize their ceremony. Steve grabbed some artificial flowers from a display vase as a bouquet – and we marched towards Paula’s booth.  Steve tapped her on the back, handed her the bouquet and asked if she would marry him NOW.  She was, of course shocked but most willing.  Someone handed the bride a headpiece (or was it a pincushion?) and we were ready.

I was truly thrilled to have been available and part of their wonderfully spontaneous marriage ceremony.  Their ceremony may have been a last minute happening, but in getting to know this couple, I was priviledged to learn that they have known each other since they were 5 years old…and they both agreed that they always knew they belonged together.  I also learned that this was the first wedding to be held at The Ag Center.  Perhaps we started a new tradition.
